Aimee shot up in bed, and sure enough it felt like she’d been hit by a bus. She was already crying from talking to her brother, but the pain she knew he was in made her sob that much harder; waking up Brock and Mike.

They just held on to her, rocking her until she calmed down enough to go back to sleep, determined to find out what had happened. They knew about the twins’ different abilities, and figured she had probably talked to Aiden. They were worried about their friend. Each of them was aware of the danger he was in going undercover in anything. If he was ever found out, he was as good as dead.

Mike saw it was only six fifteen in the morning so he laid back down with Aimee in his arms and knew that she would tell them what was going on when she woke for the day. He drifted back off to sleep.

Brock, on the other hand, couldn’t relax. He had always been the worrier of the group, and now he was concerned for Aiden. He knew if it had been too bad, Aimee wouldn’t have gone back to sleep, but he wondered what had happened. He got up, took a shower, and headed to the kitchen to fix himself some eggs. It was the only thing he knew how to fix for a breakfast meal, but he burned it this time, not really having his mind on what he was doing. He wasn’t worried though. He knew Aimee would cook them all a good meal when she got up.

At seven thirty he went back and woke Mike up to get ready for work. Aimee woke at the same time and decided to get on up for the day. She was still sore from whatever happened to Aiden, but she would trust what he told her. If something happened she would go to the chief like he’d told her to.

Ray was kind of like family, as Dr. Moore was. It was almost the same situation that is was with Evan, but Ray did have two kids from his marriage; he only got them on holidays and school breaks though. He knew how things worked for Aimee and Aiden, and she hoped if something happened, he’d pull Aiden out.

“Morning, Aims. Happy Birthday!” Brock said as he came in and kissed her cheek.

“Where were you this morning?”

“Here. I just couldn’t get back to sleep, so I got up and did some stuff around the house.”

“What did you do after you burnt your eggs?” She asked and laughed at his shocked reaction. “Don’t look at me like that. You’re the one that left the pan in the sink, you idget.” She called him the name of an idiot midget that she and Aiden had always called people who did stupid things. Of course he was anything but a midget; being over six feet tall to her measly five feet.

“Hey at least I put out the fire!” He said defensively. There was a sparkle in his eye that let her know he wasn’t serious.

“I would hope you know how with your profession.”

“Happy Birthday, Aims!” Mike said as he came in in his suit and tie, ready for work. He sat at the table with the newspaper after kissing Aimee on the cheek good morning. “So, short stuff, what’s going on?”

She didn’t have to ask Mike what he was talking about, figuring they’d want to know what happened, so she told them starting with what Evan suggested at the hospital and all the way through the dream.

“Will you be okay taking time off this close to graduation?” Brock asked.

“Yes, Dr. Moore said he would take care of it, and of course with my record I feel like it will be alright. I don’t want to be so off my game to where I mess up one day. It could cost someone their life.”

“Well, what about Aiden? Are you going to listen to him?” Mike looked at her as if he didn’t trust her to just sit back and let him do his job.

“I’ll do what he says as long as I know he’s okay. Even then I’ll do it his way and go to Ray before anything else.” But that didn’t mean she didn’t have something up her sleeve. She was going to find out what he was into so she could be ready if he needed her.

After Mike had gone off to work, and Brock headed to the gym, Aimee was on the phone to an old high school friend who knew a lot about computers and could hack into any system.

“Aimee! Happy birthday!”

“Hey, Chris. Can you do me a huge favor for my birthday?”
